Bishop’s Stortford College is one of the UK’s top-performing independent co-educational schools for pupils aged 4 to 18. The College is large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, yet small enough for individuals to feel known and valued. The College is blessed with a beautifully peaceful, spacious and safe setting, close to the countryside yet within walking distance of the market town centre. There is easy access by air, road or rail, and full advantage is taken of our close proximity to London and Cambridge, with frequent trips to both cities.
Small classes and our focus on the individual mean that every pupil receives the time and attention to develop the confidence and desire to learn. Every pupil is encouraged, taught and challenged to achieve his or her best across a broad curriculum. Recent achievements at A-level have ranked Bishop’s Stortford College as a top 10 co-educational boarding school and a top 100 independent school in the UK.

Whilst academic study is our priority, we believe passionately in the value of an all-round education, and, to this end, life at Bishop’s Stortford College is packed with opportunities outside the classroom. The diversity of choice is exceptional. Our dynamic and innovative centres for music, art and drama are highly regarded, and we enjoy a successful record in sport at regional and national level.

Our Pre-Prep and Prep School offer day schooling for pupils from 4 years of age, and day and boarding for those between 7 and 13 years. Each has its own distinctive learning environments, but, as part of the wider school community sharing the same campus and ethos, they offer a greater range of facilities, teaching resources and opportunities than is typical of most schools for these age groups. Pupils are well prepared for entry into Senior School at 13+, ensuring a smooth transition. As three schools in one, we are large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, whilst each part is small enough for pupils to be known, valued and nurtured as an individual. You can be confident that your child will benefit from the same ethos, values and high standards, at whatever stage he or she joins us.

Belonging to one of the College’s Houses is a major part of life for all Senior School pupils and Prep School boarders. Each house has an incredibly strong sense of community, with an emphasis on co-operation, responsibility, independence and mutual respect. There is a blend of day pupils, full boarders, weekly boarders and flexi boarders (those who board a few nights a week); in total, approximately 220 pupils board, 50 in the Prep School and 170 in the Senior School, including a number of international pupils. The aim of our boarding houses is to be the best ‘home away from home’ possible; a place that pupils enjoy returning to, a place of fun and companionship and a place to find support, advice and guidance when needed. Living and working together in a spirit of co-operation, respect and enthusiasm helps to build a strong yet diverse community in which individuals can thrive.
