This day and boarding school for girls aged 3-18 is a happy and thriving community providing a modern education based on Christian principles. Students receive individual care promoting their spiritual, moral, intellectual, creative and physical development. We recognise the unique qualities of each student and encourage social responsibility and respect for others.
Small class sizes, individual attention and a supportive, caring environment help ensure that each and every girl enjoys their education and reaches their full potential, academically, socially and in a wide range of activities and extra-curricular pursuits.
Academic standards are high, with the pupils consistently achieving excellent results. 54% A/A* grades at A-level and 72% A/A* at GCSE in August 2015. The girls successfully progress from St. Francis’ to study at the UK’s top universities on a wide range of courses.
St. Francis’ recognises that the world is rapidly changing and we cannot begin to imagine what the future will look like, but it is known that it will demand an understanding of a global context. Young ladies need an education that is ‘future ready’. For this reason, St. Francis’ College is an outward looking community – it is enriched by a multicultural boarding house- students and staff coming from various parts of Europe, Asia and Africa, from the local community. This diversity helps the girls understand the interconnectedness of a world which is only expanding with the pace of digital technology and, prepares them for a multi-cultural workplace. The school has been recently awarded the British Council’s International School Award for its global outlook.
“….across all subjects pupils are articulate, work enthusiastically and achieve high standards” Independent Schools Inspectorate 2011
Home from home
The Boarding House has a strong family atmosphere with around 60 full boarders supported by experienced boarding staff, including academic tutors. Ensuring high-quality provision for these girls is very important and Ofsted, in their recent inspection report, agreed that “boarders gain in confidence in an environment where they are valued and where caring attitudes are encouraged”.
Boarding is uniquely located on the top floors of the main college building providing easy access to the school facilities outside school hours. This location enhances the sense of community and connection between the day and boarding provision. Girls can board at the school from the age of 10 years old.
